Bela is Merrill Young's pet rat. She normally keeps him in a cage, but on one occasion he escapes leaving her worried that she may have lost him for good. Eventually Drew makes her a deal - he will help her find her missing pet if in return she would help him investigate the new human student Damon Grismer, and prove to the other vampires that his suspicions of him are not just jealous paranoia over the attention Sherry has been giving him. Merrill agrees and helps Drew prove that Damon is actually an undercover agent for BPDA, and he in turn finds and returns her pet rat.

Bela is probably named after the horror film star Bela Lugosi, who played the title role of the classic Universal vampire film Dracula.
